Planning for Baby

Start here for a comprehensive look at what you need to know.

Congratulations!

The birth of a baby is one of the most exciting events in anyone's life. But it does require planning. One of the biggest decisions is where you will go for the delivery. Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System has worked to build the delivery journey you and your baby deserve. We offer prenatal and delivery services at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Spartanburg Medical Center is a Baby-Friendly® acute care hospital with a Level III NICU and an OB Laborist program to ensure a qualified professional is on-site every day, 24 hours a day, ready to care for you and your newborn.

Selecting a Pediatrician

Choosing a pediatrician for your baby is an important decision. We encourage you to begin your search and selection process now. We will ask for the name of your baby’s pediatrician before you deliver and confirm your choice on admission to the hospital. A member of your pediatrician’s practice will see and examine your baby during hospitalization. Remember to check your insurance plan for a list of doctors who are in your plan’s network, and use our "Find A Doctor" tool to find a pediatrician near you.

At Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, we want to prepare your for your baby’s birthday. Our “Prepared Families” Maternity and Parent Education Program is designed to help expectant parents prepare for childbirth and your return home with your baby.

Virtual Tour

Take a virtual tour by watching a short presentation that will give you a tour of our hospital and provide important information, such as where to park when you arrive and more about our birthing suites.

Baby-Friendly Breastfeeding

We believe that breastfeeding provides many benefits to you and your baby. That is why we worked so hard to achieve the Baby-Friendly designation, a global breastfeeding quality improvement project created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Packing for the Hospital

When you are packing for your hospital visit, there are a few items you will want to remember. You will also want to pack items that you may want or need after delivery and discharge. Use our checklist of suggested items to help you get started.

Visitation Guidelines

Visitation policies differ depending on what unit you are in during your hospital stay. View our short presentation regarding visiting hours and guidelines both before and after delivery.
