Breast Health Program
The Breast Health Program at Spartanburg Regional assists women who have a suspicion of breast cancer.
The Breast Health Program enhances breast care services through a multidisciplinary approach.
Breast Health Specialists are registered nurses who are certified in benign and malignant disease, diagnosis, treatment and emotional support. They are available as a resource and a patient advocate. The specialists offer emotional support and education to empower women to make informed choices and to assist in navigating the care continuum.
While other hospitals may have breast health programs, our program allows a breast health specialist to follow a patient through the entire process, from the suspicion of breast cancer through diagnosis and treatment.
The Breast Health Program also includes the services of a licensed social worker. The social worker can help with family and social issues, financial aid, transportation problems and community resource referrals.
Multidisciplinary Clinic
The multidisciplinary clinic at the Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health is designed to evaluate patients with known breast cancer. The clinic is committed to a single-day comprehensive patient evaluation by medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists and pathologists. These credentialed experts review all available information about a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient to create a thorough treatment plan. The clinic incorporates all available resources for the education, diagnosis, treatment and research of breast cancer. The clinic also facilitates follow-up for patients.
Second Opinion Clinic
The Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health’s Second Opinion Clinic is available for patients who have received a diagnosis of breast cancer or abnormal results from a mammogram.
The patient’s case is presented to a multidisciplinary team, made up of a medical oncologist, surgical oncologist, radiation oncologist, radiologist and pathologist, and the team makes recommendations to the patient and referring physician regarding a plan of treatment. The patient can also ask questions and discuss concerns.
