Surgical Oncology
Spartanburg Regional provides a broad range of surgical options for the management of cancer. General surgery and surgical subspecialties provide expertise in treating most cancers. A surgical oncologist completes a five-year general surgery residency and then completes a two- or three-year fellowship at one of the surgical oncology programs approved by the Society of Surgical Oncology. Some of the techniques involved in cancer treatment and diagnosis at Spartanburg Regional include:

Stereotactic and ultrasonic imaging and biopsy, sentinel lymph node identification and biopsy, and breast conservation surgery.

Laparoscopic evaluation and diagnosis of intra-abdominal cancers.
- Thoracic cancer
Thoracoscopy for evaluation and diagnosis.
- Brachytherapy
Surgically or endoscopically placing radioactive tumor-killing isotopes at tumor sites.
