Research
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States. In 2005, more than 70 million Americans had some form of cardiovascular disease, and nearly 40 percent of all deaths were caused by CVD.
Since cardiovascular disease remains the dominant health problem in the United States, it is important to pursue scientific and technological advances to help fight it. Goals of the research initiatives at the Heart Center include addressing clinically relevant issues. The studies we participate in must be ethical with high potential gain and minimal risk for the patients. The Institutional Review Board plays a critical role in determining which studies we will undertake.
Clinical Research at Spartanburg Regional has played an important role in improving the care provided to cardiac patients in our area. Research helps fight heart disease at a national and international level. And it brings technology and procedures to our community that may not otherwise have been available.
