Regional Hospice Home
The house that Spartanburg built.
A hospice home is a comforting, home-like setting where patients can receive professional medical care at the end of life. Although hospice has traditionally cared for patients in their own homes, in many situations home care is not possible. The hospice home offers terminally ill patients a comfortable, family-friendly alternative to the hospital or their own home. Trained hospice professionals including a physician, registered nurses, nursing assistants, chaplains, social workers and volunteers are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Why have a hospice house?
In some cases, patients cannot be cared for in their own homes. Some patients need more treatment for their pain and physical symptoms than can be provided at home. Other patients need care while their primary caregiver takes some time to physically and emotionally re-energize. In still other cases, patients prefer not to die at home for personal reasons; for example, when there are young children living in the home. Whatever the reason, patients who cannot be cared for at home may come to the hospice home for expert end of life care in a warm and compassionate environment.
What makes the Regional Hospice Home special?
The Regional Hospice Home is a 15-bed facility, located on a beautiful wooded 20-acre property near California Avenue and I-585 in Spartanburg. Large windows and patios create a sense of connectedness with the carefully planned natural landscape that surrounds the house. The family room, filled with comfortable furniture and an inviting gas fireplace, offers patients and their families a place to enjoy spending time with one another and sharing memories that become so important in the final days. Children are welcome in the house, with games and toys in a play area designed especially for them. A quiet chapel is also available for meditation and reflection.
