Robotic Procedures for Kidney Conditions
Spartanburg Regional offers robotic assisted surgery for urological procedures to patients with kidney cancer, kidney tumors, kidney disease and urological problems.
Our experienced team of urologists specializing in robotics offers the following minimally invasive robotic procedures and urological surgeries:
What is a Nephrectomy?
A nephrectomy is the removal of the entire kidney. A nephrectomy commonly occurs when there are ureteral blockages in the kidneys that result in chronic pain and, if left untreated, can become damaging to the kidneys. A nephrectomy is sometimes performed when cancer of the kidney develops.
What is a Partial Nephrectomy?
If a patient has a tumor in the kidney and the tumor can be removed while preserving the use of the kidney, that procedure is called a partial nephrectomy.
During this process, the surgeon will remove the diseased part of the kidney and leave the remaining part of the kidney to continue to be used by the body for filtering waste.
What is Pyeloplasty?
Pyeloplasty is the surgical repair of the renal pelvis to drain the kidney due to an obstruction in the uretero-pelvic junction.
This repair treats the obstruction by removing the damaged part of the renal pelvis and using the remaining tissue to create a more patent conduit.
A patient can have a UPJ obstruction from birth or it can be acquired. Symptoms are usually back pain, multiple kidney infections and/or kidney stone formation.
