Regional Surgical Weight Loss
About 12 million people in the United States are considered morbidly obese, meaning that they are more than 100 pounds over their ideal body weight or have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of more than 40. Although diet and exercise are appropriate means of weight control among those who are mildly to moderately overweight, these methods are generally ineffective for the morbidly obese. For those who are morbidly obese, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommend that surgery is often the best choice.
Spartanburg Regional offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program for the surgical treatment of morbid obesity. Together, these physicians and medical professionals work to improve the overall quality of life for patients and their families by providing the most complete, high quality surgical and follow up care possible.
We currently offer two surgical options for weight loss:
- Roux en y Gastric Bypass
- LapBand® System
Which procedure is right for me?
There are advantages and disadvantages to both procedures. You and your surgeon will discuss your specific medical condition and needs as well as the risks and benefits of each procedure. Together, you will decide which weight loss surgery option is right for you.
