Goals of the Fellowship
Goals of this fellowship are to:
• Offer an outstanding, clinically-focused inpatient training experience
• Provide leadership and academic opportunities
• Support QI and research initiatives
• Encourage maintenance and development of relevant family medicine-centered skills
• Enhance job marketability of our graduates
The above is accomplished via the following five key components of the fellowship:
- Hospitalist training concentrated on inpatient adult medicine, working primarily with the SIPS team and focusing on the SHM Core Competencies.
- Subspecialty rotations and intensives pertinent to inpatient practice, including cardiology, pulmonology, critical care, nephrology, neurology and palliative care.
- Leadership and academic role with the Spartanburg family medicine residents, educating residents and medical students via case presentations, didactics and as an attending on the inpatient teaching service.
- Completion, presentation and, if applicable, publication of a longitudinal research, quality, safety, guideline or development project.
- Accommodating and encouraging fellows, should they have an interest in maintaining a skill specific to family medicine training, such as inpatient pediatric care.
