II. American Board of Surgery Pass Rates
The primary marker of educational quality is the ABS pass rate. The Board publishes these online at here.
Data are presented for the most recent 5 year period in terms of 1) Qualifying examination (written), 2) Certifying Examination (oral), and 3) Total Pass Rate.
Our current pass rates are 1) 89%, 2) 100%, and 3) 89%. These pass rates are better than 90% of the surgery programs in the United States.

VI. Summary of American Board of Surgery In-Service Examination (ABSITE) Scores:

Since the graduating class of 2002, the median percentile score is at the 62nd percentile.
-
70% of residents have been above the national mean (50th percentile) for their PGY Year.
-
19% of the scores were at or above the 90th percentile – 58% of our 2002-7 graduates scored in this category at least once.
-
One 2006 graduate, Barry Harris, MD, scored between the 94th and 99th percentile for each of his 5 years at SRMC!
