Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Spartanburg Regional’s Level III NICU is one of only seven in that is certified to care for the tiniest and most critically ill babies. The 35-bed NICU is located on the third floor of the main building, allowing for an ill newborn to be quickly transferred from the Labor and Delivery unit.

Having a baby sent to the NICU can be a very overwhelming experience. This is why we strive every day to provide the best care possible to our babies and their families. Four Neonatologists provide babies with top-level care. Each baby in the NICU has a primary nurse who looks after that babies individual needs.

The NICU features:

24-hour phone access to baby’s nurse
“Nesting” room, which is a private overnight room with a shower, where parents can stay with their newborn in preparation for discharge. This room allows you time to learn to care for your baby, who often has special needs such as oxygen, medications or monitors.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides a more intense level of care and treatment for children ages 0-17. Pediatric physicians and specialists are on staff 24-hours a day, seven days a week to provide the best medical attention.

Our specially designed PICU includes a child-friendly atmosphere and “under the sea” theme. The rooms are bright, colorful, and spacious and each includes a DVD player. Parents have access to a break room kitchen and shower, enabling them to spend more time with their children and less time away from the hospital. Working with pediatric specialists and nurses, parents also play an integral role in their child’s care plan. Nurses only care for one to two patients at a time, making sure children receive the care and attention they deserve while in the PICU.
