Orthotics

What are Orthotics?

Orthotics are custom made inserts that fit into your shoes.  They gently realign your foot position during walking or standing.  This realignment improves how you walk, helping your feet function in a more ideal position.  Orthotics reduce stresses and strains on your feet, knees, legs and back resulting in prevention of pain or relief of existing pain in these areas.

Who Benefits from Orthotics?

  • People who stand for long periods of time
  • People who have various alignment and/or structural issues such as flat feet, high arch, hammer toes and bow-legged
  • People who suffer from plantar faciitis, heel pain, bunions, shin splints, knee pain, hip pain or back pain
  • Athletes who may experience improved performance or injury prevention

How to Obtain Orthotics

Following physician referral, a specially trained physical therapist will perform the following:

  • Thorough evaluation of foot and body alignment, leg strength and range of motion
  • Thorough gait analysis
  • Determination if custom orthotics are needed
  • Casting for the orthotics
  • Coordination with the orthotics lab\
  • Orthotic fit and training once the inserts are made

Women who experience an uncontrolled loss of urine may be suffering from urinary incontinence. It affects women of all ages and is common, but not normal. Women may also suffer from pain in the pelvic region. Physical therapy offers a non-surgical alternative for treating incontinence or pelvic pain, allowing women to return to a better quality of life.
