Regional Surgical Weight Loss Staff

J. Paul Ross, M.D.

Dr. Ross is board certified by the American College of Surgeons. He graduated from The Medical University of South Carolina and completed his general surgery residency at Spartanburg Regional. As Clinical Medical Director and primary bariatric surgeon, Dr. Ross has performed more than 600 gastric bypass operations. He is dedicated to helping patients regain healthy, active lives. Dr. Ross is a member of the American Medical Association, the South Carolina Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

M. Dianne Smith, RN, MSN, CBN

Dianne graduated from Clemson University and has worked at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for more than 30 years. She has been the Program Coordinator for Regional Surgical Weight Loss since its inception in 2002. As a gastric bypass patient who has lost 150 pounds, she is dedicated to assisting patients in the safe, effective life-long treatment for morbid obesity. Dianne is a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

Norma B. Gaffney, RN

Norma graduated from Greenville Technical College and has worked at Spartanburg Regional for more than  seven years - the past two being with Regional Surgical Weight Loss. She is an active participant in the American Heart Association's community education for CPR and serves as a member of the Congregational Nurse Program at Spartanburg Regional. She is also a member of the Upstate's American Association of Critical Care Nurses and Secretary-Treasurer for the Piedmont District Nurses Association.

Angela Smith

Angie graduated from Spartanburg Technical College. She serves as the Patient Care Representative for Regional Surgical Weight Loss and is instrumental in the insurance approval process for gastric bypass surgery.
