Treating Wounds

There are a vast variety of wounds and every one requires a different approach to treatment. The right treatment in a time-effective manner can mean a big difference to patients. The Spartanburg Regional Wound Center uses a variety of methods to treat different wounds from burns to ulcers.

Treatments

Dressings
We have many types of dressings available.  We will provide you with the best dressing combination for your wound.  If appropriate, we will educate you and your family on home wound care, or you may return to the clinic for on-going care.

Clinician Changes
For each dressing change visit you will be seen by one of our highly-skilled wound specialists who will evaluate your wound and change your dressings.

Home Health Services
You may be able to receive in-home health care for your wound.

Compression Therapy
Foot and leg wounds often need compression with elastic stockings or bandages to improve blood return, prevent blood pooling, and help control swelling. We will determine if your wound would benefit from this therapy.

Debridement
Removing dead tissue and foreign materials from the wound are essential to promote healing. We have many techniques to clear the wound and allow new tissue to grow.

Infection Control
Wounds need to be clean and non-infected. Debridement and topical anti-bacterial dressings can help.  If needed, we can also provide oral antibiotics.

Off-loading
To heal wounds on the bottom of feet, we must take pressure off the wound. Our team of highly-skilled casting technicians can help take pressure off wounds in a variety of ways using comfortable, easy-to-wear casts and boots custom-designed for each patient.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Diabetic and other problem wound may benefit from hyperbaric oxygen treatment, which has been scientifically proven to speed wound healing.

Specialized Treatments
Our physical therapists offer highly-specialized wound treatments that may be part of your comprehensive treatment plan. These include whirlpool therapy, painless electric stimulation to help heal wounds, and ultrasound mist therapy to debride, clean and stimulate wound healing.
