NICU

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides the highly specialized care your baby needs at this time. Our first priority is taking care of your baby. Because babies need the love and comfort of their families, we encourage you to spend time with your baby whenever you can.

The NICU is located on the second floor of Spartanburg Regional.

Our NICU is a 35-bed unit that provides quality care to all high-risk newborns. We are a Regional Perinatal Center that provides stabilization, transport and outreach education in Spartanburg and the surrounding counties.

Medical care is managed by four board-certified neonatologists. A wide variety of specialist and consultants are involved in the care of our neonates. Nursing staff include a nurse manager, outreach educator/ clinical unit educator, registered nurses and neonatal transport nurses. In addition, the patient care delivery team includes a respiratory therapist, a lactation consultant, medical social worker, registered dietitian, registered pediatric pharmacist, physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech therapist.

More than 50 percent of the nurses in the NICU hold a national certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing.

For the baby's welfare, we ask that all family and friends wash their hands and arms thoroughly. This requires rolling up sleeves to the elbow and removing all rings, watches and bracelets.

Our visitation policy is given to parents when they first come into the unit. It has been developed to allow parents the opportunity to spend as much time as possible with their baby. Grandparents and other family and friends are allowed to visit following the visitation guidelines.
