Graduate Medical Education
The Department of Medical Education at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System sponsors a variety of training programs:
- Family Medicine Residency Program (dual-accredited)
- General Surgery Residency Program
- Transitional Year Residency Program
- Hospice & Palliative Care Fellowship Program
- Hospitalist Fellowship Program
- OB/GYN Fellowship Program
The department employs more than 30 full-time faculty dedicated to the education of residents and fellows. Training for residents and fellows is provided through a number of provider-based practices staffed by the full-time faculty, which include:
- Family Medicine
- Internal medicine-Hospitalist
- Maternal-Fetal medicine
The department also provides additional training with community physicians of multiple specialties.

Clinical Pastoral Education
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System also offers Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), a training program for clergy of all religions and faith groups. The focus of this experiential method of theological education is the learning of the art of pastoral care. The clerics enrolled in this program minister to patients and their family members, providing spiritual care under the supervision of a certified CPE supervisor with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. an internationally recognized organization dedicated to theological training.
