TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly – Weight Loss Support Group)

Mondays in December, 5:30 – 6:15 p.m.

Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute

Maintaining a healthy weight after the completion of cancer treatment can be challenging, but with the proper tools and support you can achieve your weight loss goals. TOPS is a weight loss support group for cancer survivors and caregivers. For more information on becoming member call 864-560-7618 or email survivorshipprogram@gibbscc.org.

Wealth (Walking, Eating, And Learning Towards Health – Walking Program)

Mondays in December, 6:30 – 7:15 p.m.

Thursdays in December, 5:45 – 6:15 p.m.

Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute

If you are a cancer survivor looking for a fun way to engage in regular physical activity, we encourage you and your caregiver to join WEALTH! WEALTH participants meet twice weekly for a 30-minute walking session. Each walking session will conclude with a brief nutrition education class. World Aids Day: Celebrate the Milestones in Remembrance

Monday, Dec. 1, 6 p.m.

Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health Gardens

Please join us on for an inspirational ceremony in honor of World AIDS Day. Our guest speaker, Joann Doctor, will share a deeply moving story about HIV. Light refreshments will be served. In the event of inclement weather, the event will take place in the lobby of the Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health.

Festival of Trees

Tuesday, Dec. 2, 6 p.m.

Spartanburg Marriot

Join us as we unveil our Festival of Trees display. A cocktail party will be held during the event. After the unveiling, enjoy Dickens of a Christmas and other festivities in Downtown Spartanburg. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at RegionalFoundation.com or by calling 864-560-6979.

Mobile Mammography

Spartanburg Regional’s mobile mammography unit performs screening mammograms across Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union counties. Call 864-560-7777 to register, except where noted; bring your insurance card and identification. The mobile mammography unit will be at the following sites:

Nutritional Navigation: A Grocery Store Tour

Friday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m.

Publix at Hillcrest

Join dietitian Kerri Lindberg, RD, LD for a tour of your local grocery store. She’ll share what to look for on a food label, healthy cooking tips, recipes and general advice for navigating any grocery store. Please arrive 10 minutes before the starting time; reservations should be made in advance as space is limited to six participants per tour. Uplift Support Group

Tuesday, Dec. 9, 6 – 7 p.m.

Regional Outpatient Center fifth floor, Family Medicine Conference Room

This free support group, led by a clinical therapist, is offered to all pre- and post-surgical weight loss patients in the Upstate. The goal is to build a strong core support system for patients prior to surgery that promotes healthy lifestyle changes and behavior modification that can be built upon after surgery.  Patients also build relationships that help encourage and build their self-esteem and success after surgery. No registration is necessary.

Light Up a Life Tree Lighting

Wednesday, Dec. 10, 3 p.m. or 7 p.m.

Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home

For each donation made to the Light up a Life campaign, a light will be placed on our Tree of Memory. Join us as we light up our Tree of Memory at a ceremony to remember and honor these special people. Donors who attend the ceremony will receive an ornament, and a reception will follow. Lap-Band® Information Session

Wednesday, Dec. 10, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Regional Outpatient Center fifth floor, Family Medicine Conference Room
This free class covers detailed information about LapBand® weight loss surgery. This procedure does not require stapling, cutting or intestinal rerouting and is adjustable. The class is led by Paul Ross, M.D., who has performed more than 1,300 surgeries. Register online at SpartanburgRegional.com/events or call 864-560-7070 for more information.

Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy Information Session

Wednesday, Dec. 17, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Regional Outpatient Center fifth floor, Family Medicine conference room

This free class covers detailed information about gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy weight loss surgeries. This class is led by Drs. WomenHeart Support Group

Wednesday, Dec. 17, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

First Presbyterian Church, Spartanburg

Led by a Mayo Clinic-trained facilitator, WomenHeart is a support group for women to express their feelings with a peer group that understands the emotional toll of a heart disease diagnosis. This group meets on the third Wednesday of each month and is open to any woman who has a history of heart disease. Lunch will be provided.
