Easter Meals Gift Reflects Meaning of the Season

SPARTANBURG SC, April 14, 2014 – During this, the season of hope and rebirth, Spartanburg Regional Foundation offers an opportunity to make a special time even more meaningful.

Sunday School classes, community organizations, civic clubs, youth groups, families and individuals are encouraged to make gifts to the Easter Meals for Regional Hospice Families program. This seasonal outreach – a long-standing collaboration between Spartanburg Regional Hospice and Wade’s Restaurant – provides a delightful holiday dinner to hospice patients and their loved ones.

“The Easter Meals program allows hospice patients to celebrate Easter with their families,” said Kristy Caradori, executive director of Spartanburg Regional Foundation, explaining that a $55 donation provides a full meal for a gathering of up to a dozen friends and relatives. “We are grateful to this generous community for reaching out to those coping with serious illness.”

Easter Meals nourishes those under hospice care – not only physically but also spiritually and emotionally. The program provides a positive opportunity for extended families to gather round their loved one while creating a few more precious memories together. Sharing a meal leads to shared laughter, shared reminisces, shared acceptance of what’s to come. Thus a gift to Easter Meals is a gesture that echoes this season’s promise of renewal and joy.

The program, now in its 18th year, serves nearly 120 meals. Wade’s Restaurant prepares and freeze-dries the food, which can then be easily heated in a microwave or oven. Duke Power retirees load packages into cars for the team of volunteers who deliver the meals to patients’ homes. Wade’s contributes a portion of the cost and community donations cover the rest.

In addition to Easter Meals, the Foundation offers hospice patients a Holding Cross when appropriate. A $15 donation covers the cost of one of these hand-carved wood symbols, which fit perfectly into the palm of your hand.

Donors may make gifts “in memory of” or “in honor of” and an acknowledgment will be sent to those being remembered or honored.

Spartanburg Regional Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. For more details, call 864.560.6727 or visit
