Uplifting Event Taps into Power of Shared Experience, Strength & Hope

Luncheon raises breast cancer awareness with meaningful messages

The Spartanburg Regional Foundation is tapping into the power of shared experience, strength and hope as it hosts an uplifting event for those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

An Uplifting Event: Coming Together to Stop Breast Cancer takes place Monday, Oct. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Spartanburg Marriott. The luncheon program features local leaders sharing their stories of courage, grace and dignity in the midst of an ongoing fight against this all-too-prevalent disease.

“The Foundation is honored to host ‘An Uplifting Event,’ which brings hundreds of women together to raise breast cancer awareness,” said Kristy Caradori, executive director of Spartanburg Regional Foundation. “There is great power in women working together to advocate for this important health issue. Much has been accomplished, and there is still much more to do to eradicate breast cancer in the Upstate.”

Marsha Gibbs and Lindsay Webster are honorary co-chairs of the event, which benefits the Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health. A sold-out crowd of 600 is expected.

The Uplifting luncheon – open to survivors, caregivers and loved ones – takes place in October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society estimates 232, 670 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed this year as well as 62,570 new cases of in situ breast cancer. Some 40,000 women are expected to die from the disease during 2014 – thus the Foundation’s emphasis on funding early screening, accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
