More than $680,000 in Grants Awarded to Community

Spartanburg Regional Foundation Awards Annual Grants

Recipients of Spartanburg Regional Foundation grants.

The Spartanburg Regional Foundation awarded a total of $688,118 in grants to community organizations committed to the health and wellness of Upstate residents. The Foundation, part of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, named 26 recipients at an annual ceremony held June 17 at the Piedmont Club in Spartanburg.

“We are proud to support nonprofits and health system programs that make Spartanburg a healthier community,” said Kristy Caradori, executive director of the Spartanburg Regional Foundation. “We are grateful to our donors for providing us the opportunity to give back to our community.”

All grants are funded entirely by donations to the Foundation and will support programs at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and throughout the Upstate community.

Congratulations to our 2015 Spartanburg Regional Foundation grant recipients:

 

  • AccessHealth Spartanburg:

$67,096

This grant will provide funding for an outreach project that partners Middle Tyger Clinic, St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic, St. Matthews Episcopal Church and others as needed to help improve health and reduce emergency room visits. 

  • Angels Charge Ministry                                                                                                              

$5,000

This grant is to provide funding for female residents who need intensive behavioral counseling, health care and housing. The ministry helps local women rebuild their lives and not relapse into criminal behavior.

  • BirthMatters                                                                                                                     

$8,350

This supports evidenced-based teen pregnancy prevention education program to females between ages 12-18 in Spartanburg County.  This initiative is a partnership with the Urban League of the Upstate. 
               

  • Center for Health and Healing                                                                                 

$53,290

This grant will fund brainwave optimization equipment and a pilot brainwave optimization study with breast cancer survivors. The Center of Health and Health, connected with SRHS, focuses on whole-body healing, helping patients deal with stress and the psychological aspect of an illness.

 

  • Christmas in Action                                                                                                       

$5,190

This provides building materials for home repairs for disadvantaged elderly or disabled     homeowners in the Chesnee community. Christmas in Action rehabilitates homes of low-income, elderly and disabled individuals.    

               

  • City of Inman Fire Department                                                                              

 $14,418

This grant will assist with the purchase of an all-terrain vehicle stocked with medical equipment to help respond to medical emergencies in remote areas. 

  • Divinity Care Facility                                                                                                     

$10,115

This fund supports homeless males, many of whom have been recently discharged from SRHS. This aid includes providing life-sustaining medications, upgrading a bathroom with handicapped accessibility, bedding supplies and a hot water heater

 

  • Meeting Street Academy Spartanburg                                                  

                $8,500

The Meeting Street Academy aids and enriches students who come from under-resourced neighborhoods. The grant will provide health room equipment, supplies and health-related teaching materials.

 

  • Mental Health America of Spartanburg County                

                $7,000

This grant provides support for an educational program from I.C. Hope called “Don’t Duck Mental Health.”  This program aims to break down the stigma of mental help and helps children and their parents feel comfortable with mental health issues.

  • Medical Group of the Carolinas – Palliative Care                                                                            

$25,000

This support outfits a new clinic location in the Senior Health division of Palliative Care, which extends care to underserved seniors. The Palliative Care Program at SRHS focuses on providing patients with relief from the time of the diagnosis throughout their illness with the goal of improving the quality of life for the patient and their family. 

 

  • New Day Clubhouse of Spartanburg                                      

                $7,000

This grant funds for art instructors, art supplies, musicians and educational field trips. New Day’s mission is to help individuals with special needs to live independently in the community.

 

  • Spartanburg County Parks Department                                                

                $10,000

This grant is to provide funding for Cleveland Park playground equipment used for 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds.

 

  • Spartanburg County School District Six                                                 

                $7,500

This grant will enhance the classroom at Spartanburg Medical Center with technology, curriculum and staff development for Project SEARCH, a school-to-work program for 18-21 year olds.  

 

  • Spartanburg Medical Center – Administration                                  

                $84,359

This grant will assist with the renovation required to expand the existing pre-procedure waiting room.

  • Spartanburg Medical Center – Hospitality Services        

                $78,497

This grant will provide funding for UV light devices to reduce harmful pathogens in surgical suites and patient rooms.

 

  • Spartanburg Medical Center Planning Department                                                        

                $11,072 

This grant will provide funding for a digitalization project in collaboration with the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare Museum and Spartanburg County Public Library. 

 

  • Spartanburg Medical Center – Rehab Oncology                                               

                $81,000
This grant funds the STAR program which improves rehabilitation access for cancer patients in all treatment phases, from pre-intervention through survivorship. 

  • Spartanburg Shares Medical Loan Closet                                             

                $3,500
This grant provides funds for new technology and communication devices. Spartanburg Shares’ mission is to lend durable medical equipment, free of charge, to any resident in Spartanburg County.

  • St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic                   

$30,000

This grant will provide funds for patients’ basic, life-sustaining medications. St. Luke’s offers health care to uninsured Spartanburg County residents. The clinic has primary medical care, physician ordered-medications, pastoral support and patient education.

 

  • The Family Effect            

                $11,250

This grant will fund detox clients from Spartanburg, Union and Cherokee counties.  

 

  • The Salvation Army                                                       

                $5,000

This grant will provide funds to complete the purchase of a new 15-passenger bus. 

 

  • We Girlz Rock                                                                                                                  
    $1,500

This grant funds 50 workbooks and journals for an HIV/AIDS motivational program held at the Limestone College Fullerton Auditorium in Gaffney, S.C.

 

  • West View Elementary                
    $3,300

This grant funds pedometers for children and staff/faculty to increase wellness and prevent obesity in children.

Support the purchase of Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT) software.

 

  • Nurse Family Partnership

Provide assistance for two additional registered nurses to serve the target population.
