SMC Named in Top 100 Greatest Hospitals by Becker’s Hospital Review

Spartanburg Medical Center (SMC) was named one of the Top 100 Great Hospitals in America in 2015 by Becker’s Hospital Review.

The 2015 list, developed by the editorial team at Becker’s Hospital Review, selects hospitals based on their own research and multiple hospital ranking sources such as U.S. News & World Report, Healthgrades and Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

SMC was the only hospital from South Carolina ranked in Becker’s Top 100 listing.

“To be ranked with hospitals of this caliber, from all over the country, is quite an honor,” said Phil Feisal, President of Spartanburg Medical Center. “Spartanburg Medical Center is proud that our commitment to quality patient care has led us to this ranking.”

SMC was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the No. 1 regional hospital in South Carolina in their 2014-15 U.S. News Best Hospital rankings. Healthgrades recognized SMC in 2015 with their Cardiac Surgery Excellence award. SMC is designated as a Magnet® hospital and has been since 2005. Less than 7 percent of hospitals around the globe achieve Magnet status, and only 1 percent maintains that honor through a rigorous reapplication process, which SMC completed in 2010.

"These hospitals are home to many medical and scientific breakthroughs, provide best-in-class patient care and are stalwarts of their communities, serving as research hubs or local anchors of wellness.” Becker’s Hospital Review said.

Hospitals selected were picked based on high-quality care, stellar credentials and a patient-focused community.
