SRHS Breaks Ground for Immediate Care Center in Gaffney

New urgent care facility opening late 2016

Leaders break ground for MGC-ICC-Gaffney

When an unexpected illness strikes, the convenience of a walk-in, urgent care clinic is sometimes the answer. Medical Group of the Carolinas (MGC) wants to offer innovative urgent care options to the more-than 55,000 people living in Cherokee County and the surrounding area.

Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) broke ground on Monday for the new facility, MGC—Immediate Care Center—Gaffney on Floyd Baker Boulevard. MGC – Family Medicine – Gaffney will become MGC—Immediate Care Center—Gaffney. The new practice will offer an array of healthcare services including primary, urgent and specialty care.

“We are pleased to open the first urgent care facility in Gaffney,” said Mark Aycock, chief operating officer for Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. “Immediate Care Center – Gaffney will expand access to primary and urgent care in the Gaffney community. Access to high-quality care is an important part of creating a healthy community.”

Future plans for MGC—Immediate Care Center—Gaffney include adding medical specialty care to the planned urgent and primary care services.

The Gaffney facility is MGC’s third immediate care center. The other two immediate care centers are located in Spartanburg and recently received Patient-Centered Connected Care RecognitionTM from the National Committee for Quality Assurance, recognizing MGC’s efforts in providing leading healthcare in an urgent care environment.

“Unlike most walk-in or urgent care centers, the immediate care center focus is to serve as a patient’s long-term medical home,” said Nick Ulmer, MD, vice president of clinical services for Medical Group of the Carolinas.

A total of 25 to 30 staff members will work in the immediate care center including three physicians and will also bring an investment of $4 million to Gaffney, which includes the purchase of land, equipment and construction of the facility.

MGC is SRHS’s constantly growing physician group that encompasses more than 22 patient-focused specialties, with more than 300 physicians serving 11 counties. MGC opened two practices in fall 2015: MGC—Family Medicine—Five Forks—Pelham in Greer and MGC—Family Medicine—Mountain Park in Travelers Rest.

The new MGC—Immediate Care Center—Gaffney has walk-in hours. Acute and urgent care hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Primary care hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The building will be 13,000 square feet and include primary and urgent care, laboratory and X-ray features. The facility will have 12 primary and urgent care exam rooms, two procedure rooms and five specialty care rooms.
