Sports Medicine Institute: Spring Break Sports Performance Camp
Tuesday, April 4 – Thursday, April 7
9 – 10:30 a.m., Age 8 – 12 ($60)
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Age 13 – 18 ($80)
Wofford College Intramural Fields
Sports performance spring break training focuses on flexibility, injury prevention, core strength, explosive strength and acceleration, and lateral movement mechanics. We help athletes from all sports become faster, stronger and more explosive. We teach proper running mechanics, core-strength development, lateral and linear agility, dynamic flexibility and balance. 2016 Upstate Heart Walk
Saturday, April 9, 9 a.m.
Downtown, Greenville
The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association's premiere fundraising event; the organization promotes awareness and prevention of heart disease and stroke – this country’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers, respectively. Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System is proud to be a sponsor of this event, designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living. Nutritional Navigation: A Grocery Store Tour
Tuesday, April 12, 10 a.m.
Publix Hillcrest
Join dietitian Kerri Lindberg, RD, LD, for a tour of your local grocery store. She’ll share what to look for on a food label, healthy cooking tips, recipes and general advice for navigating any grocery store. Keeping Mind Body Connections: Happiness and Health
Tuesday, April 12, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Gibbs Cancer Center Auditorium
The Center for Health and Healing’s Keeping Mind Body Connections brings education and awareness of the importance of self-care for mind, body and spirit health via guest speakers and interactive activities. James West, CMBM, will present how positive psychology relates to the mind body spirit connection for health and happiness. Pelham Carb Counters
Tuesday, April 14, 5 – 6 p.m.
Pelham Medical Center, Medical Office Building Community Room
This free support group is intended for people currently living with diabetes or who are at high risk of developing the disease. Certified diabetes educators lead the discussion and answer questions. Surviving Stroke Support Group
Monday, April 18, 6 – 7 p.m.
Thomas E. Hanna YMCA, Spartanburg
This support group is intended for stroke survivors and their families and is facilitated by two speech language pathologists. Time is spent sharing educational information about stroke and stroke recovery. The group provides an opportunity for attendees to receive emotional and practical support from other stroke survivors. Act Fast: Learn about Stroke
Tuesday, April 19, 12 – 1 p.m.
Pelham Medical Center, Medical Office Building Community Room
Act fast and join John Pilch, MD, at Pelham Medical Center to learn how to prevent a stroke. Learn the signs and symptoms of stroke, how the right diet and a healthy lifestyle can reduce your risk and how the right treatment can save lives. Head & Neck Cancer Screening
Tuesday, April 19, 5 – 6 p.m.
Spartanburg ENT, North Grove
Spartanburg ENT physicians in partnership with Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute will provide free head and neck cancer screenings. Registration is not required. Screenings are offered on a first come first served basis. Call 864-560-6508 for more information.

Gibbs Wellness Café: Cancers of the Head and Neck
Wednesday, April 20, 12 – 1 p.m.
Gibbs Cancer Center Auditorium
Held the third Wednesday of each month, Gibbs Wellness Café is a monthly conversation focusing on various topics related to cancer and the community. Join Noel Kinard, head and neck navigator and social worker Chad Dingman to learn about cancers of the head and neck. Lunch will be provided at this free event, but registration is required. Diabetes Self-Management Education
Wednesday, April 20, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Pelham Medical Center, Medical Office Building Community Room
Diabetes affects every organ in the body, and Medical Group of the Carolinas – Diabetes Education can help you learn to manage it. Participants in this program receive a free blood glucose meter and diabetes reference book. You must have a physician’s referral to participate, and insurance will be filed for the program’s cost. Better Breathers Club
Thursday, April 21, 2 – 3 p.m.
Pelham Medical Center, Medical Office Building Community Room
Part of the American Lung Association’s Better Breather's Club, this support group is for anyone living with a chronic lung disease and their families or caregivers. The group is led by a healthcare professional who helps attendees learn how to meet the challenges chronic lung disease brings to daily life.
