Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Names Physician, Leader and Associate of the Year

As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. In healthcare, it takes a team to care for a patient. From food services to greeters at the front desk to nurses and physicians, every associate at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System plays a role in the care of our patients and the compassion shown to our guests.

To show our appreciation of the work our associates provide, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) recognizes a Physician of the Year, Leader of the Year and Associate of the Year as part of the annual National Hospital Week. The announcements were made at a banquet honoring employees on Thursday, May 12, at the Spartanburg Marriott.

National Hospital Week celebrates hospitals and those who support the health of their communities through dedication and compassionate care.

Physician of the Year: Stuart Reynolds, MD, Medical Intensivist

The SRHS Physician of the Year is medical intensivist Stuart Reynolds, MD. Dr. Reynolds is an engaged physician who has the goals of both his patients and the healthcare system at heart.

His persistent and steadfast goal of creating a dedicated medical critical care service came to fruition in the fall of 2015. More people are surviving complex medical problems thanks to Dr. Reynolds’s care. With his medical team’s care, patients are staying in hospital intensive care units for shorter amounts of time. His critical care team is known for its daily multidisciplinary rounds and a strong focus collaborating with all the team members who provide care.

“He employs his calm demeanor and sense of humor as a key member of numerous hospital committees, helping gain consensus and momentum in moving forward,” said chief quality officer Chris Lombardozzi, MD. “Ever-persistent and unfailingly patient, he is dedicated to the continuous improvement of patient care and the patient and family experience.”

Leader of the Year: Brian Webb, Director of Imaging Services

The SRHS Leader of the Year is Brian Webb, director of imaging services. Medical imaging, or radiology, allows for medical professionals to both examine and reach the inside of the body. This includes MRI services, X-rays, mammograms, ultrasounds or CT scans. Webb led his team to earn accreditation from the American College of Radiology. This was the first time the whole department has been accredited, including services at Spartanburg Medical Center, Pelham Medical Center and the North Grove Medical Park.

Under Webb’s direction, the imaging department provides reliable, quality images for diagnosis and safe patient care. Webb demonstrates great leadership and positively impacts almost every department within the healthcare system, including the emergency center staff and Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute.

“Brian has been a consistent advocate for improving radiology services for Emergency Center patients,” said Thomas Boyd, MD, emergency medicine physician. “He is always willing to make time to discuss improving the EC processes. I truly appreciate his calm, reassuring demeanor. As patient volume increases in the Emergency Center and in the hospital, his leadership has been essential to ensuring continued excellent service.”

Associate of the Year: Adam Smith, Construction and Renovations Facilities

The SRHS Associate of the Year, with two years of service at SRHS, is Adam Smith of Construction and Renovations Facilities.

Smith always eagerly performs his work and uses his time wisely. His skills ensure that construction projects are completed quickly and thoroughly; as a result, areas of the hospital that need work re-open quickly for patient use.

Some of his projects include renovations to the pre-procedure waiting room and pediatric rehabilitation; he is currently working on the Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health office at North Grove. Construction and renovation can be loud and cumbersome, and Smith is always considerate, remembering that he works in a healing environment. He is stringent with guidelines that ensure both patient and staff safety and satisfaction.

“Adam is one of the hardest workers at SRHS, on the renovations he assists on,” said Glen Davis, SRHS construction and renovations facilities. “Not only is he a key component in achieving our construction deadlines, he also seeks out ways to improve upon tasks and ensuring that we satisfy our customers.”
