Day of DanceSRHS Makes Shopping Healthier With Day of Dance

February is American Heart Month, and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) is partnering with Spirit of Women® to present a huge dance party for better health in the Upstate.

The 2014 Day of Dance is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 near the WestGate Mall entrance at JC Penny (205 West Blackstock Road) in Spartanburg. Bring your family and friends to:

  • Dance
  • Walk with a Doc
  • Listen to music
  • Participate in free health screenings and learn about simple ways to stay healthy

The free screenings include cholesterol, cardiovascular risk and other options to assess your risk for heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training will be offered from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the food court area at the mall.

The event is free and open to the public and no appointment is necessary. Fasting for 12 hours is recommended for blood work. Call 560-7999 for more information or register at spartanburgregional.com.

“We’re making shopping a whole lot healthier!” said Colleen Gilmore, RN, Program Coordinator for Women’s Services at SRHS. “We’ll have a DJ and the owner of Jazzercise Spartanburg at the event to get people up and moving.

"Dancing is a wonderful and fun way to get up, get moving, burn calories, tone muscle and have fun with family and friends. Anyone walking by is more than welcome to join in the fun throughout the day. In addition, Julie Frank of Jazzercise Spartanburg will give two free dance classes per hour. Another popular part of the event is ‘Walk with a Doc,’ that includes an SRHS physician leading groups during a walk around the mall and share healthy tips."
