Spartanburg Regional Recognized for Sleep Lab Excellence
Healthstream awards Excellence Through Insight
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) has been recognized for excellence in outpatient experience in the sleep lab unit.
HealthStream awarded the “Excellence Through Insight Award” to SRHS’s outpatient sleep lab, located at North Grove Medical Park in Spartanburg.
“We really strive to provide excellent customer service for our patients. These are patients who have chronic issues and we are able to get them the right type of sleep and approve their quality of live,” said Teresa O’Neal, Director of Respiratory and Sleep Services for SRHS. “The award highlights the fact that we have a staff dedicated to providing excellent care to our patients.”
The HealthStream Awards of Excellence acknowledges exceptional performances achieved by healthcare organizations. The awards spotlight innovative programs and superior leadership along with workforce development, patient satisfaction, employee engagement and positive feedback from the community.
“Excellence Through Insight Award” winners are hospitals recognized for excellence in their ability to gain insight about their patients, employees, physicians and community through research and use that information to build excellence within their organization. Award winners in 2014 were recognized based on data collected from the 2013 calendar year.
“We are one of the oldest sleep centers in the country and the largest in South Carolina,” said SRHS sleep services manager Shari Newman. “This award gives validation to the fine work our team does. Our team does a great job welcoming patients and making them feel at home and comfortable so they can get the rest they need.”
To qualify for an award with HealthStream, a hospital must have been a patient satisfaction client of HealthStream in 2013, scored in the 75 percentile or higher and surveyed a minimum of 100 patients.
Spartanburg Regional Sleep Services offers two nationally accredited programs and has been providing sleep testing and care since 1985. As one of the first sleep diagnostic centers in the southeast, SRHS provides specialized care to diagnose and treat more than 80 types of sleep disorders. Common sleep disorders treated at SRHS are sleep apnea, insomnia or sleep-movement disorders, such as restless leg syndrome.

- Loud snoring
- Excessive daytime sleepiness
- Breathing interruptions during sleep
- Memory difficulties
- Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or waking
- Waking up gasping for air
- Dependence on sleeping pills
- Nighttime chest pains or seizures
- Grinding teeth during sleep
- Sleep walking or acting out dreams
- Frequent nightmares or terrors
- Frequent morning headaches
In addition to sleep services at North Grove Medical Park, SRHS provides sleep services at Spartanburg Medical Center. SRHS’s sleep centers were also the first in the Upstate of South Carolina to receive national accreditation, earning it from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
