“They really care”
Patient recognizes nurses for his care with donation
After staying at Spartanburg Medical Center for a week, Doug Nash returned to thank the Spartanburg Medical Center nurses who helped him through his surgical recovery.
Nash’s voice broke a little as he spoke.
“I get very emotional whenever I talk about these ladies,” he said. “They helped me get through a very tough time. I was told that it’s just part of the culture, but it’s deeper than that. They really care.”
While he was in the hospital, Nash said the 4Tower nurses always made sure he had what he needed.
To show his thanks, Nash returned to Spartanburg Medical Center for a special ceremony where he made a gift to the Spartanburg Regional Foundation to support continuing education for care providers working in 4Tower at the hospital.
“None of you ever left me without asking if I needed anything,” he said. “You are a wonderful team and I wanted to recognize you.”
Nash personally thanked each nurse and the nurses received a certificate, recognizing them for their work.
“So often our patients thank us, but it means so much to receive this type of recognition,” said Susan Duggar, Vice President of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer for Spartanburg Medical Center. “It touches our hearts. The nurses did a super job in helping Mr. Nash get back on his feet.”
The Foundation matched his gift, and Nash requested the fund be open to allow others to make donations in honor of care providers.
“It’s so special when our patients want to recognize our staff for the care they received,” said Kristy Caradori, executive director of Spartanburg Regional Foundation. “It was especially exciting that we were able to match his donation to support ongoing education.”
