Specimen Processing Instructions

 

Plasma:  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes 
Serum:  Allow to clot.  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes 
Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection.

Specimen Stability

Room temperature:  8 hours   Refrigerated: 5 days 

Rejection Criteria

 

•  If not centrifuged within 2 hours of collection. 
•  Gross Hemolysis

Reference Range

 

Direct Bili = 0.0 – 0.2 mg/dl 
Indirect Bilirubin = 0.2 - 1.4 mg/dl 
Total Bilirubin = Adult range = 0-1.5 mg/dl 
Neonatal Total Bilirubin Ranges: 
0 min. - 1 day = 0-6.0 mg/dL 
1 day - 2 days = 0-8.0 mg/dL 
3 days - 10 days = 0-12.0 mg/dL 
11 days - Adult = 0-1.5 mg/dL

Critical Value

Neonate Total Bilirubin critical = >12.0 mg/dl
