Specimen Processing Instructions

Plasma:  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes 
Serum:  Allow to clot.  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes 
Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection.

Transport Requirements

Refrigerated

Specimen Stability

Room temperature:  8 hours  Refrigerated: 5 days 

Rejection Criteria

•  If not centrifuged within 2 hours of collection. 
•  Gross Hemolysis

Reference Range

Adult range = 0 - 1.5 mg/dL
Neonatal T. Bili Ranges: 

• 0 min - 1 day = 0 - 6.0 mg/dL
• 1 day - 2 days = 0 - 8.0 mg/dL
• 3 days - 10 days = 0 - 12.0 mg/dL
• 11 days - Adult = 0 - 1.5 mg/dL

Critical Value

>12.0 mg/dl on Neonates
