Serum or plasma
Red-top ,gold-top, or lavender top (EDTA) tube
Separate serum or plasma. Specify if patient was upright or supine during collection.
Volume: 1.0 ml. Min. volume: 0.5 ml.
Evaluate patients with hypertension and possible hyperaldosteronism.
No isotopes administered 24 hours prior to venipuncture. Recommended that patient be ambulatory for at least 30 minutes prior to collection-patient posture can affect aldosterone levels.
Specimen Processing Instructions
Gross hemolysis; gross lipemia; recently administered isotopes; plasma from green to tube.
