Specimen Type

Voided 24 hour Urine or a random urine  

Container

Sterile urine container and if needed a 24 hour urine container

Collection Instructions

•  If 24 hour collection collect all urine voided for 24 hours and place in the 24 hour urine container.
•  The collection container is to be kept in the refrigerator or on ice during the timed period.
•  Note the number of hours of urine collection on the aliquot for 24 hour urine sample.

Max: 5 ml preferred
Min:  1 ml

•  Calculation for the ratio = Urine Calcium / Urine Creat times 1000

Specimen Processing Instructions

  • Refrigerate
  • Note the number of hours of urine collection on the aliquot if 24 hour collection.
  • Give aliquot to Core Lab so a tech can acidify with 2-3 drops of 6N HCL for the urine calcium.

Reference Range

No reference range for the ratio.  The ratio is reported in mg / g Creatinine.

Urine Calcium,  Urine Creatinine,  Calculated Urine Calcium Creatinine ratio – Calculation for the ratio = Urine Calcium / Urine Creatinine times 1000.

Both the 24 hour collection and the random collection, the ratio result is reported in mg / g of Creatinine.
