Collection Instructions

 Spinal Tap; Blood must be collected when CSF obtained or within 24 hours

Volume

Volume: 1.5 ml serum and  1 ml. CSF
Min. volume : 0.7 serum and  0.5 ml .CSF

Additional Information

Must have both CSF and blood! Do not send blood and CSF to reference lab separately.(send on same day)

Once in the lab,separate serum from cells if using red-top tube

Transport Requirements

Refrigerate, room temp. or frozen

Specimen Stability

Rejection Criteria

Blood in CSF;  quantity not sufficient; both specimens not received

IgG and albumin quantitation in both serum and spinal fluid. The calculation of IgG synthesis rate in the central nervous system
