Specimen Processing Instructions

Plasma:  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes

Serum:  Allow to clot.  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes

Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection.

Transport Requirements

Refrigerated

Specimen Stability

Room Temperature: 8 hours;  Refrigerated: 5 days 

Rejection Criteria

If not centrifuged within 2 hours of collection.

Reference Range

CHOLESTEROL

<5 yrs = 66-190 mg/dl

Adults Normal = 115-200 mg/dl

Borderline = 200-239 mg/dl

High = >240 mg/dl

 

HDLD

40-60 mg/dl

Non HDL Cholesterol Ratio = 0-130 

LDLD

<100 mg/dl

 

Triglycerides

0-10 yrs = 30-100 mg/dl

10–15 yrs = 32-125 mg/dl

15-20 yrs = 37-148 mg/dl

Adult = 44-150 mg/dl
