Collect specimen in NMR LipoTube OR plain red-top tube

Additional Information

If triglyceride level is > 400 mg/dL, LDL cholesterol will not be calculated

Patient Preparation

Patient should be fasting for 12-14 hours

Specimen Processing Instructions

Allow specimen to clot for 30 minutes before centrifugation. Centrifuge within 24 hours of collection. 
If collected in NMR LipoTube,do not open tube. 
If using red-top tube, transfer to aliquot tube.

Transport Requirements

Must be refrigerated;  DO NOT FREEZE or STORE  at ROOM TEMPERATURE

Specimen Stability

7 days 

Rejection Criteria

Unspun LipoTUbe or unseparated plain red-top tube; gross hemolysis; serum more than 10 days old; specimen drawn in gel tube other than NMR LipoTube; frozen or 
room temperature specimens
