Two Lavender –top (EDTA) tubes
Must have both tubes full
Volume: 4 mL in each tube Min. volume: 4 mL in each tube
Detect folate deficiency; monitor therapy with folate ; evaluate megaloblastic and macrocytic anemia
Verify that patient has not had vitamins containing folic acid during the previous three to five days; if so, consult physician. Patient should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to collection of a sample.
Specimen Processing Instructions
Do not centrifuge; Leave refrigerated specimen in original tube;
LAB processing: Transfer 2nd specimen to Lab Corp tube and freeze
Refrigerate 1 tube and freeze 1 tube
No frozen whole blood; no refrigerated whole blood; plasma; quantity not sufficient.

RBC folate; hematocrit
