Collection Instructions

Requires TEG order form (print from lab section of Enterprise Forms of Hospital Intranet).  Send specimen directly to transfusion – cannot be centrifuged.

2.7 ml

Additional Information

Specimen musts be tested within 4 hours of collection and cannot be centrifuged prior to analysis.   Indicate the type of specimen and if patient is on heparin.

Patient Preparation

Baseline specimen must be obtained prior to any surgical incisions. 
Rewarming specimen = 34-35oC esophageal temperature at specimen collection. 

Specimen Processing Instructions

Deliver all specimens ASAP directly to transfusion with the TEG order sheet.

Rejection Criteria

Improper patient identification, under or overfilled blue tubes, centrifuged blue tubes, specimen greater than 4 hours from collection.

Rate= 5-10 min; Kinetics = 1-3 min; Alpha Angle=53-72; Max. Amplitude=50-70
