Sodium Citrated Whole Blood
Blue (Full), do NOT collect in low volume (light blue) tubes.
Requires TEG order form (print from lab section of Enterprise Forms of Hospital Intranet). Send specimen directly to transfusion – cannot be centrifuged.
Specimen musts be tested within 4 hours of collection and cannot be centrifuged prior to analysis. Indicate the type of specimen and if patient is on heparin. Notify blood bank at 67655 prior to collection of Rapid TEG specimens to allow for reagent preparation ahead of testing.
Baseline specimen must be obtained prior to any surgical incisions. Rewarming specimen = 34-35oC esophageal temperature at specimen collection.
Specimen Processing Instructions
Deliver all specimens ASAP directly to transfusion with the TEG order sheet.
Improper patient identification, under or overfilled blue tubes, centrifuged blue tubes, specimen greater than 4 hours from collection.
Rate= 5-10 min; Kinetics = 1-3 min; Alpha Angle=53-72; Max. Amplitude=50-70

Daily, Monday – Sunday
