Neonatal Type & Screen, Type & Screen (on neonate)
Whole Blood – EDTA microtainer
1 Lavender Microtainer Maternal blood may be used (if necessary) for antibody screening and crossmatching.
Collections require 2 person patient/specimen identification and specimen labeling complete with blood bank armband number. Mother’s 1st name and MRN required (for inhouse mothers) or alternately the mother’s blood type and antibody screen/identification results are required.
500 ul lavender microtainer – EDTA
1 test is valid on neonates for the entire admission or until the neonate reaches the age of 4 months whichever comes first. After this time a regular Type & Screen should be ordered instead of a Type & Screen/Neonatal and each test is only good for 3 days from the specimen collection date for transfusion.
Specimen Processing Instructions
Absence of 2 person patient/specimen identification and labeling. Absence of blood bank armband identification on specimen. Patient Specimen does not match patient historical blood type. Absence of specimen identification.
ABORh and Antibody Screen for transfusion purposes.
