Collection Instructions

It is recommended 2-3 stool specimens collected on separate days be submitted to increase probability of isolating bacterial pathogen ,but 1 specimen may be submitted.

Volume

Volume: 1-2 ml or 1-2 grams of stool 
Min. volume: same as above

Isolate and identify Yersinia enterocolitica only

Rejection Criteria

Specimen not in appropriate transport; specimen received in leaking container; Specimen in fixative; specimen frozen; wooden shaft swab; overfilled transport container; specimen received in diapers.

No Yersinia isolated
