Robotic Surgery: GERD, Nissen Fundoplication

At Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, an innovative surgery called “Nissen fundoplication” is one option for some patients who have gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. By using the da Vinci Surgical System , our surgeons complete the Nissen procedure to create a stronger valve between the esophagus and stomach. This helps to stop stomach acid from backing up into the esophagus.

The Nissen procedure is so successful that patients might be able to avoid any further treatment for GERD , including medicines like proton pump inhibitors.
