Ear, Nose & Throat
As experts in the field of Otolaryngology, our surgeons have each had many years of extensive training in managing ear, nose and throat care in patients of all ages.
During sinuplasty, which is similar to angioplasty for blocked arteries, a balloon opens clogged sinuses with less pain and faster recovery.
Balloon sinuplasty is a new minimally invasive, surgical treatment that uses a small flexible sinus balloon catheter, which is placed into the nose to reach the sinuses. Balloon sinuplasty patients typically experience much less post-operative pain, swelling, and bleeding than patients having conventional sinus surgery using traditional instruments. Many patients having the balloon procedure are able to return to work the following day.
The image-guided surgical system was developed and manufactured by BrainLAB, which created the first mouse-controlled, menu-driven software for surgical planning and navigation.
From left to right:
- Gain access to the sinus
- Inflate balloon across ostium
- Deflate balloon leaving ostium open allowing the return of sinus drainage
An endoscope is a flexible tube that is inserted into the nose to help physicians diagnose sinus problems. Endoscopic sinus surgery is used to treat sinus blockage, sinusitis, structural defects, infection or damage to the sinuses or structures in the nose and throat. It can also be used to view polyps or growths in the sinuses.
