New Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage Options and Spartanburg Regional Health Coverage

In 2014, another part of the health care law will take effect, allowing you to buy health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. This notice provides you with basic information about health coverage offered by Spartanburg Regional and about your options under this new Marketplace.

The Health Insurance Marketplace

In the Marketplace you can shop around and compare private health insurance options. In addition, you may be eligible for a new tax credit that lowers your monthly premium or a reduction in certain cost-sharing. However, please note that if your employer health coverage meets the health plan standards per PPACA (see below) you will not be eligible for the tax credit through the Marketplace and will likely want to enroll in one of your employer health plans. Open enrollment for health insurance coverage through the Marketplace begins in October 2013 for coverage starting as early as January 1, 2014.

By accepting health insurance through the Marketplace, you forfeit any employer contribution to the employer-offered coverage. Any premiums for health coverage bought on the marketplace will be paid from taxed dollars, whereas, any premiums paid for employer-based health coverage will be paid out of pre-taxed dollars.

Health Plan Standards per PPACA

Cost of health plan coverage for the individual employee (and not any other members of your family) is 9.5% or less of household income

OR

Health plan coverage meets the “minimum value” standard set by the Affordable Care Act
