About

In the Marketplace, you can shop around and compare private health insurance options. In addition, you may be eligible for a new tax credit that lowers your monthly premium or a reduction in certain cost-sharing. However, please note that if your employer health coverage meets the health plan standards per PPACA (see below) you will not be eligible for the tax credit through the Marketplace and will likely want to enroll in one of your employer health plans. Open enrollment for health insurance coverage through the Marketplace occurs in the fall of each year for coverage starting as early as January 1 of the following calendar year.

By accepting health insurance through the Marketplace, you forfeit any employer contribution to the employer-offered coverage. Any premiums for health coverage bought on the marketplace will be paid from taxed dollars, whereas, any premiums paid for employer-based health coverage will be paid out of pre-taxed dollars.
