Specimen Processing Instructions

Whole Blood: send the collection tube

Plasma: Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for 5 minutes. Remove the plasma without disturbing the cellular layer. Centrifuge again at 3380 rpm's (±100) for 5 minutes. Remove the platelet poor plasma to a transfer tube. Freeze sample to extend stability. 

 

Transport Requirements

Refrigerated if within 4 hours 

Frozen if arrival to lab is >4 hours

Specimen Stability

Refrigerated Whole Blood: 4 hours;   Frozen Plasma: 1 month 

Rejection Criteria

•  Clotted Sample 
•  Insufficient volume 
•  Hemolyzed Plasma

Reference Range

Factor IX = 66 – 147 % activity
