Specimen Processing Instructions

Plasma:  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes

Serum:  Allow to clot.  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes.

Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection.

Transport Requirements

Specimen Stability

Room temperature:  8 hours   Refrigerated: 48 hours 

Rejection Criteria

•  If not centrifuged within 2 hours of collection. 
•  Gross hemolysis

Reference Range

0 – 1 Day = 40-60 mg/dl

2 Day – 1 Week = 50-80 mg/dl

5 Week – 12 Years = 60-100 mg/dl

13 Year – Adult = 70-100 mg/dl

Critical Value

Adult:  <40 mg/dl, >400 mg/dl;  Newborn:  <30 mg/dl, >300 mg/dl
