"The field of palliative medicine is growing, and the gap in person-power will continue to widen by all projections.  I am very grateful that, as I approach the end of my career, that I have had the opportunity to participate in the training of specialty level palliative medicine physicians.  As is generally the case with teaching, I have learned a great deal from our trainees and the job of being program director and faculty itself—much more than I have taught."

"Medicine in the 60's and 70's was once described as 'see one, do one, teach one' and thus was born the challenge as I believe described well by Dr. Atul Gawande 'We know less and less about our patients and more and more about our science.'

I hope to assist clinicians to learn to focus more on the patient's life as he/she defines it rather than on the disease and it's therapy."

"Caring for the human spirit, mind, and body has always been a great passion of mine. Even more, I love sharing and teaching on these matters to anyone willing to listen. Teaching is not a one-way street - much learning and growth can come from teaching, and vice versa. It is an honor to share insights and research that have opened my eyes and broadened my skill set so that I may better serve each person I come across. "
