Transitional Year Residency: Salary and Benefits

Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System offers a comprehensive benefits package to support the Transitional Year resident.

  • First year salary of $58,844.80
  • Health insurance
    • Two plans available; family coverage available; optional Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Dental insurance
    • Two plans available; one at minimal cost to resident; family coverage available
  • Life insurance
    • No cost for insurance equivalent to annual salary
  • Disability insurance
  • Malpractice insurance
  • Paid time off
    • Vacation-Sick: 20 days annually
    • Holidays: six (6): New Years, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor day, Thanksgiving, Christmas
  • Maternity leave
    • Provided in accordance with GMEC policy
  • Paternity leave
    • Up to five days; must use vacation/sick time
  • Death in family/emergency absence
    • As approved by director; vacation/sick time to be used
  • Administrative leave
    • Up to five days per year as approved by director
  • Free health club membership at Spartanburg Athletic Club
  • Golf privileges at local country club (discounted)
  • On-site child care
    • One of only a few on-site, child-care facilities in South Carolina, Spartanburg Regional’s Child Development Center (CDC) has been recognized nationally for excellence. It offers a full range of developmental programs for children ages three months to 12 years. A current fee schedule may be obtained by contacting the CDC at 864-560-6160.

  • South Carolina controlled substance license fee ($125) paid by hospital
  • Federal DEA number license fee ($731) paid by hospital
  • USMLE III, first attempt paid ($815)
