Transitional Year Residency: Curriculum

The Transitional Year Residency Program at Spartanburg Regional is intended to be as flexible as possible in order to accommodate individual needs and interests.

  • Medicine conference every Thursday (must attend 80%)
  • TY Meetings every month

Course Selections

Required

  • Four Blocks
    • Inpatient Internal Medicine
  • One Block
    • Emergency Medicine

Selectives

Choose four blocks from the following:

  • Pediatrics
    • Inpatient Pediatrics
    • Outpatient Pediatrics
  • OB/GYN
  • Internal Medicine
  • Critical Care Surgery
  • Emergency Medicine

There is a 140-hour ambulatory requirement by the ACGME. It can be fulfilled by a month of Pediatrics, OB/GYN, or Outpatient Family Medicine.

Electives

Choose four blocks from the following:

  • General Inpatient Surgery
  • Internal Medicine Subspecialties
  • Surgery Subspecialties
  • Outpatient Family Medicine
  • Radiology
    • May not be taken by those scheduled to do a radiology residency
  • Dermatology
  • Radiation Oncology
  • Anesthesiology
  • ENT
  • Orthopaedics
  • Ophthalmology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Vascular Surgery

Rotations listed under Required & Selectives may also be taken as electives.
