Maternal blood may be used (if necessary) for antibody screening and crossmatching. 

Collection Instructions

Collections require patient/specimen identification and specimen labeling complete with blood bank armband number.   
Mother’s 1st name and MRN required (for inhouse mothers) or alternately the 
mother’s blood type and antibody screen/identification results are required.

500 ul lavender microtainer – EDTA

Additional Information

1 test is valid on neonates for the entire admission or until the neonate reaches the age of 4 months whichever comes first.  After this time a regular Type & Screen should be ordered instead of a Type & Screen/Neonatal and each test is only good for 3 days from the specimen collection date for transfusion.
