Specimen Processing Instructions

Plasma:  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes

Serum:  Allow to clot.  Centrifuge at 3380 rpm’s (±100) for a minimum of 10 minutes

Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection.

Frozen samples are not recommended.

Room temperature:  8 hours   Refrigerated: 48 hours 

Rejection Criteria

If not centrifuged within 2 hours of collection.

CO2 = <11 mmol/L and >40 mmol/L

Glucose (adult) = <40 mg/dl and >400 mg/dl

Phosphorus = <1 mg/dl

Potassium (adult) = <2.8 mmol/L and >6.5 mmol/L

Sodium = <120 mmol/L and >160 mmol/L
