In 2016, 2020 and 2021, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina recognized Spartanburg Medical Center with a Blue Distinction Center designation. We were recognized for our work in bariatric surgery as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.

In 2017, Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute medical oncology and infusion center achieved Quality Oncology Practice Initiative recertification from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
CyberKnife Radiosurgery System
In September 2015, Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute at Pelham was the first in the United States to use the CyberKnife Radiosurgery System® M6, with the next-generation InCise Multileaf Collimation System. This cut the time it takes to use radiation to treat tumors.
GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer Community Hospital Center of Excellence
For its high-quality care and treatment of lung cancer patients, the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer recognized Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute as a Community Hospital Center of Excellence Award.

Mission: Lifeline® Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award
In 2015, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System was recognized with the Mission: Lifeline® Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. The hospital system earned the award by meeting high-performance standards for quickly and correctly treating STEMI patients. STEMI is a deadly type of heart attack that requires emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries.
NCDR Action Registry-GWTG Performance Achievement Award
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System received an NCDR ACTION Registry-GWTG Performance Achievement Award in 2014 and 2015 from the National Cardiovascular Data Registry.
Chest Pain Centers
Spartanburg Medical Center received full Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI with Resuscitation Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care in 2016. Spartanburg Medical Center is the first to receive PCI (percutaneous catheter intervention) and resuscitation accreditation in both North and South Carolina. Spartanburg Medical Center was also South Carolina’s first nationally accredited chest pain center in 2003.
Cherokee Medical Center is accredited as a Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology.
Spartanburg Medical Center—Mary Black Campus is accredited as a Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology.

In 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, Spartanburg Regional Hospice earned the SHPBest HHCAHPS Superior Performer patient satisfaction award from Strategic Healthcare Programs. The award recognizes home health agencies that consistently provide high-quality service to their patients.

We Are Sharing Hope Excellence in Donation Gold Level Public Outreach Award
In 2016, 2017, and 2018, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System was recognized with the We Are Sharing Hope Excellence in Donation Gold Level Public Outreach Award. In 2015 and 2016, Pelham Medical Center also achieved the "Most Wired" designation. The honor is awarded to organizations that leverage information technology to improve performance for value-based healthcare. The improvements are in the areas of infrastructure, business and administration management, quality and safety, and clinical integration.

Level I Trauma Center
Spartanburg Medical Center’s Emergency Center has been a Level I Trauma Center since the 1980s. This means the trauma center can care for the most critically ill and injured.
Women and Children
Baby-Friendly designation
In 2017, Spartanburg Medical Center achieved the Baby-Friendly designation. This is a global breastfeeding quality improvement project created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The center is the only facility in Spartanburg County to have achieved this important designation.
Blue Distinction Center+ for Maternity Care
In 2021, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and BlueChoice Health Plan of South Carolina recognized Spartanburg Medical Center as one of the first hospitals in South Carolina to receive the Blue Distinction Center+ for Maternity Care designations under the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.
