Since 2017, Spartanburg Medical Center has maintained the Baby-Friendly designation through the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

- In 2016, 2020 and 2021, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina recognized Spartanburg Medical Center with a Blue Distinction Center designation. The designation recognized the bariatric surgery program as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.
- In 2022, Optum Health recognized Spartanburg Medical Center as one of the Bariatric Centers of Excellence in its network.
- Spartanburg Medical Center is accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program. The program was first designated in 2006.
- In 2022, Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute received two distinctions from the National Cancer Institute. The NCI awarded the Upstate Carolina Consortium Community Oncology Program NCORP the Platinum Certificate of Excellence for patient enrollments, including the Tomosynthesis Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial for breast cancer screenings. Gibbs also received a Certificate of Excellence for participating in the Cancer Moonshot Biobank, which collects tissue and blood samples throughout a patient’s cancer journey to learn more about how cancer changes over time and the course of medical treatments.
- In 2017, Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute’s medical oncology and infusion center achieved Quality Oncology Practice Initiative recertification from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
- In September 2015, Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute at Pelham was the first in the United States to use the CyberKnife Radiosurgery System® M6, with the next generation InCise Multileaf Collimation System. This reduces the time it takes to use radiation to treat tumors.
- In 2015, Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute at Pelham was the first cancer center in the United States to use the SpaceOAR® System, the first FDA-approved method for placing a ‘spacer’ to protect the rectum of men undergoing prostate cancer radiotherapy.
- For its high-quality care and treatment of lung cancer patients, the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer recognized Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute with the Community Hospital Center of Excellence Award in 2015.
- Since 2019, Gibbs Cancer Center has been a part of the Upstate Carolina NCORP program for clinical trials.

- In 2017, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System was recognized with the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® Gold Plus Receiving STEMI Quality Achievement Award. The award was for meeting specific quality improvement measures, as outlined by the American Heart Association, to treat patients who suffer severe heart attacks.
- Spartanburg Medical Center was one of 193 hospitals nationwide to receive the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2017.
- Spartanburg Medical Center was recognized as one of Healthgrades 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery in 2016.
- For three years in a row (2015-17), Spartanburg Medical Center received Healthgrades Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award.

- In 2016, Spartanburg Medical Center received full Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI with Resuscitation Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. Spartanburg Medical Center was the first in both North and South Carolina to receive both the PCI (percutaneous catheter intervention) and resuscitation accreditation.
- In 2015, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System received the Healthgrades 2015 Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award and was in the top 10 percent in the nation for cardiac surgery.
- In 2015, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System was recognized with the Mission: Lifeline® Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. The hospital system earned the award by meeting high-performance standards for quickly and correctly treating STEMI patients. STEMI is a deadly type of heart attack that requires emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries.
- Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System received an NCDR ACTION Registry - Get with the Guidelines Performance Achievement Award in 2014 and 2015 from the National Cardiovascular Data Registry.
- In 2013, Healthgrades ranked Spartanburg Medical Center as No. 1 in South Carolina for overall cardiac services.
- Spartanburg Medical Center was South Carolina’s first nationally accredited chest pain center in 2003.
- In 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home earned the SHPBest HHCAHPS Superior Performer patient satisfaction award from Strategic Healthcare Programs. The award recognizes home health agencies that consistently provide high-quality service to their patients.
- In 2023, Spartanburg Medical Center, Spartanburg Medical Center - Mary Black Campus, Pelham Medical Center, Cherokee Medical Center and Union Medical Center received platinum recognition by the Health Resources and Services Administration Hospital Campaign for organ, eye and tissue donation and registration efforts.
- In 2020, Spartanburg Medical Center, Spartanburg Medical Center – Mary Black Campus, Cherokee Medical Center and Union Medical Center all received the Platinum Award for Workplace for Life Excellence in Donation.

- Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System was named “Most Wired” by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum in 2016 and 2017.
- In 2015 and 2016, Pelham Medical Center also achieved the "Most Wired" designation. The honor is awarded to organizations that leverage information technology to improve performance for value-based health care. The improvements are in the areas of infrastructure, business and administration management, quality and safety, and clinical integration.
- In 2015, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System was recognized for further advancing its use of electronic medical records by HIMSS Analytics. The system achieved stage 6 on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model.
- Spartanburg Medical Center’s Emergency Center has been a Level I Trauma Center since the 1980s. This means the trauma center can care for the most critically ill and injured patients.
- Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System received America’s Essential Hospitals 2017 Award for Population Health. This award recognizes those who provide help to fight against socioeconomic factors for poor health, such as food insecurity, homelessness, language barriers and more.
- In 2017, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System was recognized with the South Carolina Hospital Association’s Working Well Initiative Gold Apple award, for creating a culture of healthy yet affordable foods.
- Pelham Medical Center was recognized by LiveWell Greenville as a Healthy Workplace in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
- Pelham Medical Center was recognized by the South Carolina Hospital Association’s Working Well initiative and Prevention Partners for achieving the highest standard of tobacco-free excellence in 2016. Its efforts included creating a tobacco-free workplace and providing high-quality tobacco cessation programs for employees.
- In 2016, Pelham Medical Center was recognized with the WorkHealthy America Gold Star award for tobacco-free associates and campuses.

- Spartanburg Medical Center is a Family Connects International Certified Community Partner.
- Since 2017, Spartanburg Medical Center has held the Baby-Friendly designation.
