Collection Instructions

At order, indicate that the patient is a PAT patient, then the screening questions will appear.  Patient must be screened and determined to be a candidate for this test by virtue of NOT having been pregnant nor transfused within the past 3 months.  Specimen collection requires patient/specimen identification and labeling.  Specimen must be collected within established acceptable time frame prior to surgery date.

Max:  6.0 ml whole blood EDTA 
Min:  3.0 ml whole blood EDTA 

Additional Information

Only orderable from PAT/AM Pre-procedures with accompanying patient screening.  Patient requires the assignment and subsequent placement of a blood bank bracelet.  Pretransfusion labeling requirements required.  Transfusion from this specimen is not possible should the patient be transfused blood between this specimen collection date and the scheduled surgery date where this specimen is greater than 3 days prior to the schedule surgery.

Screening for pregnancy and/or transfusion in past 3 months or known blood antibodies.

If patient has been pregnant or transfused within past 3 months, the patient must be tested with a Type & Screen 1-3 days prior to the scheduled surgery.
